Kentucky Science Center Volunteen Program
Open to teens age 14-18, the Kentucky Science Center’s youth volunteer program operates year-round to engage and inspire visitors from all across our region. Volunteens assist in exhibit halls, perform scientific demonstrations, serve as lab assistants in classes, workshops and camps, and help out with Birthday parties, science celebrations and other special events.
Volunteens gain valuable experience working with people from all walks of life, and build important teamwork, communication, presentation and leadership skills. It’s a great way to build your resume for scholarships, college applications, and future employment!
Our goal at the Kentucky Science Center is to help our teens stretch and strengthen those skills. New volunteens are interviewed and start out at a level where they feel most comfortable. A teen may start at level 1, working as an exhibit hall ambassador, greeting visitors, helping them with exhibits and answering questions. As their skills increase and level of comfort and confidence grows, that teen will present small format, then large format programs and demonstrations, or take on a leadership role in special events and activities. At age 18, Volunteens can apply for part time paid positions and function as Volunteen lead!
Volunteens support their community and the families who visit the Center to play and learn by giving of your time. You will be a positive role-model and make an impact on the lives of thousands of children.
As a home-school student, you may choose a shift during the week, working mornings to help with school groups or afternoons working with families and visitors. Shifts are typically 4 hours and most home school Volunteens choose to work at least 1 shift per week.
