2017 LHS Cross Country

It is time to start thinking about the 2017 Homeschool Cross Country season. Last year we had about 25 runners and we ran in eight or so meets and this year promises to be even better.

Who: 1st through 8th grade boys and girls. (If you have a kid older than this, talk to me so we can see what we can do. I don’t have a problem with the older running training with us, but I don’t know yet when the high school meets are.)

What: Cross country, which is a running race over a distance of 1 to 2 miles, depending on the age.

When and Where (Practices): Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting July 18, at Iroquois Park. We meet at the picnic shelter/gazebo between the playground and amphitheater, off of New Cut Road. We’ll practice for one hour. The kids will eventually run about 3 to 3 ½ miles per practice. If you haven’t seen them run cross country before, you’ll be impressed.

When and Where (Meets): Meets are generally Saturday mornings, starting in mid- to late-August until mid-October. The meets will in or around Louisville, Ky.

How: Email me or show up at the first practice. The cost will be $55 and include the uniform. We are upgrading the uniforms this year to real, actual, cross country/track uniforms. If your runner doesn’t outgrow it, you can use it next year and the cost will be deducted. The uniforms (short and singlet with team name) are $26. We’ll get sizes during the second week of practice.

Cost: $55 per Runner.  The cost pays for the uniform, meet registration, and Kentucky MileSplit, a website I have to use to register for races. We are getting cross country uniforms from Coffman’s Sporting Goods. Next year, if the uniform fits, your runner can use it again and not have to pay that part of the registration. We will go with a Columbia blue top and royal blue short. You can pay sometime during the first two or three weeks.
